Job Description and Requirements

The Counsellor undertakes technical services with regard to guidance and counselling for students.  These services aim at helping them to adapt and achieve mental health and to actualize their potentials through the three domains of counselling; Preventive, development and interceptive, through work areas that include:

 

  • Individual sessions and consultations
  • Case studies
  • Group counselling
  • Sessions with parents
  • Lecture, seminars and field visits
  • Administrative meetings and meeting with teachers
  • Observing and following up students activities

 

Qualifications and Skills:

 

  • Hold a degree in related fields.
  • Have a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have excellent organisational skills
  • Have very good ICT skills
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Preferably bilingual (English & Arabic)

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Clarifying the nature of his/her job to the administration, staff, students and parents

 

  • Preparing annual plan, carrying it out evaluating it

 

  • Collecting information about students to be used for counselling purposes

 

  • Performing individual meetings and sessions with students and helping them to overcome difficulties they face and issues concerning in different areas of their lives.

 

  • Meeting with parents and advising them with regard to matters concerns their sons/daughters

 

  • Undertakes the role of a consultant to the administration and staff in educational matters and issues in addition to those related to counselling and guidance of students and their behaviour in class

 

  • To increase students’ achievement motivation and dealing with learning diffulties, learning worries and test anxiety.

 

  • Initiating group guidance and counselling programme as necessary

 

  • Holding lectures and seminars by coordinating with the administration as part of the group guidance and counselling programme. These should be of preventive and /or developmental purposes.

 

  • Preparing to brochures/bulletins to clarify the nature of students, teachers and parents when necessary

 

  • Group counselling, the counsellor discusses with a small group of students a shared problem to help them understand all the sides of that problem and suggesting suitable solutions.  This should lead to developing their skills and abilities in future and modifying their attitudes and behaviour

 

  • Following up the cases of frequent absences and lateness referred to him/her by the administration

           

 

Reporting Relationship:

 

The Counsellor reports to the Director of Counselling and Pastoral Care.
